Experience

A writer who pairs an artistic background with freelance pragmatism, Joly Herman has been working professionally in the media industry since 1998.

As head writer for Chevron’s educational website, she created compelling content for kids age 8 to 12 on a weekly basis. She has written feature articles for Media Magazine and interviewed leaders of the media industry for the “People Profile” column.  Joly has worked as a television, movie, and book reviewer for Common Sense Media, a non-profit organization “dedicated to improving kids’ media lives,” since 2004.

As a poet who received an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Michigan, Joly has published poetry in various small magazines and has won awards for her work. She has written a book of fiction for teens.

As a small business owner in San Francisco, Joly co-owned and operated a successful small business in the integrative health care industry from 2004 to 2008.

Recognizing a niche market in need of representation, Joly founded Solo Parent Magazine in 2014. Solo Parent Magazine is now a leading parenting magazine specializing in content for divorced, blended, widowed and solo-by-choice parents and their families. The online magazine features hundreds of articles written by professionals, as well as a podcast.

In 2017, Joly began using her business and media expertise to provide small business owners answers to big media questions. Joly Herman Creative LLC strives to make connecting with audiences and clients a positive, profitable possibility for businesses large and small.
